Our biggest competitors are the streams and the rivers in Romania (Summary)
In September ATEV Zrt., the leading animal feed production company in Hungary acquired a controlling stake in Romanian market leader Protan S.A. In our current interview we spoke to Mr. Sándor Ádor, the CEO of ATEV, who gave us an insight of the acquisition and the further expansion plans of the company. IMAP MB Partners advised the buyer in this transaction.
Mr. Sándor Ádor highlighted that the presence of ATEV in Romania has been already established through a consortium with Protan, which won a tender for waste management of the Romanian government and municipalities. Protan has been under insolvency procedure for a while, so with the purchase ATEV will have to consolidate the company. Mr. Ádor Sándor said that the reason behind the acquisition was to protect the market from western competition and to provide enough raw materials coming from animal breeding to ATEV, because in Hungary the sector is gradually slowing. Currently in Romania 70-80% of animal waste is deposited illegally and the derogation provided by the EU is soon coming to an end, so it is vital for the country to make remarkable progress in this field and comply with EU regulations.
The further direction of ATEV's regional expansion has not been decided yet - said the CEO. However it is a great advantage for the company that financial investors are unlikely to enter the market.
